Do firms that perform well report differently compared to those that perform badly? Impression management in integrated reporting

چکیده
Purpose This paper aims to investigate whether managers use impression management through the presentation of non-financial information in an integrated reporting setting. Design/methodology/approach The authors performed experiment with experienced professional controllers and part-time students enrolled executive master’s degree finance control at universities Netherlands. In this experiment, we manipulated financial performance test if present differently based on firm’s performance. Findings study found that is not applied by including or excluding key indicators (KPIs) report, but using more prominent forms for positive non-prominent ones negative However, form decreased when firms’ was positive. instance, noted statistically significantly often decided poor a format comparison who were aware Research limitations/implications A limitation focused only two strategies: opportunistic/under-reporting form. analysis shows mainly seems occur format. Future research could other strategies Practical implications results are importance users reports, because it will provide insight into firms truly transparent their reports. Furthermore, theoretical implication relevant regulatory authorities, sheds light different used influence positively negatively performing KPIs decisions preparers Originality/value Therefore, study, add prior literature investigating concept More specifically, perform focus (the under-reporting) setting link firm

Learning Bayesian Nets that Perform Well
A Bayesian net (BN) is more than a succinct way to encode a probabilistic distribution; it also corresponds to a function used to answer queries. A BN can therefore be evaluated by the accuracy of the answers it returns. Many algorithms for learning BNs, however, attempt to optimize another criterion (usu ally likelihood, possibly augmented with a regularizing term) , which is independent of t...
متن کاملPersistent Databases That Perform?
Conventional computer systems implement a dichotomy of storage mechanisms: a file store which provides a durable repository allowing data to exist after the creating program has ceased execution (such data is termed long-term data), and virtual memory which provides a repository for data during program execution (such data is termed short-term data). In typical conventional systems it is the re...
متن کاملWalking biped humanoids that perform manual labour.
The Humanoid Robotics Project of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan realized that biped humanoid robots can perform manual labour. The project developed humanoid robot platforms, consisting of humanoid robot hardware and a package of fundamental software, and explored applications of humanoid robots on them. The applications include maintenance tasks of industrial plants, tele...
متن کاملNeural Network Control Systems that Learn to Perform Appropriately
Setting up a neural network with a learning algorithm that determines how it can best operate is an efficient way to formulate control systems for many engineering applications, and is often much more feasible than direct programming. This paper examines three important aspects of this approach: the details of the cost function that is used with the gradient descent learning algorithm, how the ...
متن کاملHow to Choose Mutual Funds that Perform Well? Evidence from Taiwan
This study aimed to examine the performance evaluation and persistence of equity mutual funds when the market reverses from a bull market to a bear market. We also attempt to find the appropriate performance evaluation indicators when funds exhibit performance reversal. Such an indicator will be of great assistance to investors in making investment decisions. Therefore, this study investigates ...
